Il compito che Soave si è posto, quello di rappresentare la Toscana, è difficile come difficile è elaborare una poetica pittorica che riesca ancora a mettere al centro la relazione tra il pittore e il suo pubblico. La Toscana non è un luogo qualunque, è una regione densa di storia e di cultura, regione dove la pittura e la lingua italiana hanno preso forma insieme al pensiero politico moderno e alla moderna concezione del mondo.Terra dei Padri dunque,crocevia di tradizioni con cui Soave ha deciso di confrontarsi.Il rapporto che l’artista sceglie di instaurare con questo luogo topico è evidente da subito: citazione e rappresentazione in assenza. Assenza di storia e assenza di elementi conflittuali, la Toscana creata da Soave è luogo che deve permettere al pittore, al limite senza mediazioni, di dialogare direttamente con lo spettatore. In ogni sua opera, Soave sembra dire “a me gli occhi” e lo spettatore non può fare altro che affidarsi alla sua maestria.L’assenza di elementi facilmente riconoscibili perché ancorati alla tradizione,fa emergere il vero intento che muove la pittura di Soave: chiedere fiducia per incantare e stupire gli occhi di chi osserva.E’ facile allora capire perché l’artista tra disegno e colore, tra figura e sfondo, se queste dicotomie ancora reggono all’urto della liquidità che caratterizza i linguaggi artistici del post-moderno, sceglie il colore e lo sfondo.In tutte le opere è il colore che forma il tema centrale ed il suo è un duplice ruolo: da una parte ha il compito di guidare e inscrivere gli occhi dello spettatore dentro l’opera, dall’altra va a definire lo spazio entro cui la relazione tra pittore e pubblico può avvenire. In breve, il colore condensa lo sguardo, lo spazio e il movimento. Così non è importante se la natura e gli oggetti raffigurati siano veri, non è la plausibilità della rappresentazione che Soave interroga,ma è invece il piacere dello sguardo che ricerca. Se lo spettatore ha dato fiducia all’artista, se gli ha concesso il proprio sguardo, ecco che la Toscana di Soave diventa immediatamente leggibile come pura e semplice gioia del vedere e al tempo stesso del fare arte.
Se la scelta del medium pittorico serve all’artista ad instaurare col proprio pubblico un rapporto caratterizzato dal piacere,la sfida di portare “La mia Toscana” in Cina supera di colpo i possibili ostacoli culturali posti alla comunicazione, perché Soave mira al cuore e alle emozioni degli spettatori in modo diretto senza lasciare spazio a fraintendimenti. Siamo sicuri poi che la presenza di Soave qui a Shanghai lascerà i suoi frutti perché la città stessa,giorno dopo giorno, va costruendosi come un immenso spazio dove la relazione fra sguardo,movimento e colore crea il ritmo della nostra contemporaneità definita come “glocale”.

The task which Soave assigned to himself is to represent Tuscany. This task is quite difficult. Soave accepts the challenge to elaborate a philosophy of painting which could be still interesting today; to re-establish a relation between a painter and its public.
Tuscany is not any region. It’s a region full of history and culture. It’s an Italian region where painting and Italian language shaped-up together and inspired the modern political thought, the modern way in which human beings have conceived the world.
Tuscany is a country in itself, full of tradition: a cradle of tradition and civilization. This is the very arduous task which Soave decided to confront himself with. The dialogue which the artist decided to undertake with this interesting region is very evident: he is making some artistic quotations, on one hand, and he is still making some representations of the region, on the other hand.
Tuscany has thus become a symbol. History and conflicting elements have completely disappeared in Soave’s re-creation of that typical landscape. The region is therefore a symbolic land in which the painter, by a magical effect, could dialogue directly with the viewer.
In each of these works of art, Maestro Soave tells the public: “Give me your eyes”! And by the effect of this spell the public is transported inside that oneiric space. In that absence of specific elements, Soave creates an idealistic Tuscany. This shows to us what is, in fact, the real element inspiring Soave’s works. He asks the public to trust him, so he can enchant the eyes of the observer.
The artist moves between lapis and crayons, between figuration and abstract. Are we still convinced? Is it Tuscany, what we see, or is it the place of our dreams? Is it the realm of colors or is it the realm of shapes? An answer could come through our observation of Soave’s use of colors in depicting the landscape.
In every work of Soave, there is a very big importance given to the color, so the central element of the painting is the color. On one hand it leads the eyes of the viewer inside the spectrum, on the other hand it defines the space in which the relation between painter and the public consists.
Color subjugates the eye, creates the space and leads that movement. So, in this way, it is not important if the nature and the objects are true. It is not necessary that Soave indicates a specific and real landscape. He researches pleasure and joy and creates it by contagion in the public, in the person who sees the work of art.
We can finally answer to our first question, whether Soave wants the trust of the observer, and we can definitely answer: yes! If the viewer has considered him to be his own eye, then Tuscany to Soave immediately becomes a rainbow; he definitely has the capacity of making art according to the pure esthetic tradition of Tuscany’s old painters.
The choice of Soave to bring “La Mia Toscana” in China goes beyond the necessity to match the Italian tradition and the Chinese tradition, because in fact Soave does not request an understanding linked to the two different cultural traditions. He goes directly to the heart of the public and he targets the emotions of the public without leaving any possibilities of misunderstanding.
We are sure that the presence of Soave here in Shanghai will give beautiful fruits because the city, day after day, is building itself as an immense space where the relation between eye, movement and colors creates a rhythm appropriate to the pace of the contemporary world.
